The first time any Treasury Secretary visits Tribal nation.
The Treasury Department has announced that Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen will be visiting the Rosebud Sioux Tribe next week. This will be the first time that a U.S. Treasury Secretary has ever visited a Tribal nation. She will see firsthand how the Rosebud Sioux have utilized the $195 million in funding provided to them through the American Rescue Plan and will help the tribal nation to strategize how best to use the remaining funding.
Secretary Yellen has long been aware of the financial disparities between Native American nations and the United States. “You do not need a Ph.D. in economics to know that our economy has never worked well for Native Americans or people living in Indian country,” she said during the rollout of the American Rescue Plan in November. This visit will inform the Treasury Department on how best to aid chronically underfunded indigenous Americans.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Yellen to seek God’s wisdom as she interacts with leaders of the Rosebud Sioux Nation.
- For the actions of U.S. Treasury officials to be beneficial to indigenous Americans.
- For discernment for the president and his administration as they work with tribal nations.
